No driveshaft in our new toy. Also what manual transmission (prefer 4-speed) should we look for that will fit well with the stock driveline? Thanks, Gene & Jr

#48730 08/07/2005 5:24 AM | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | the TF long box is just a longer single shaft [pre-'66 coarse tooth in the yoke] - the 3/4T and up have the 2 piece, and therefore has an extra cross member w/ the center mount for the shaft - the 4 speed that will fit right in is the original SM420, same for many years, but unless you're really workin the truck at slow speeds, the 3 spd is just as good - of course if you have no trans in it maybe it also doesn't have the column shift on it

Now would be a good time to put a T-5 five speed with o,drive in it & have a drive shaft made up for it. The tech tips has a good coverage on this & there have been many posts.
