Just curious, as this has occured to me recently. The 60-66 model trucks were everywhere as I was growing up, yet I've only seen a few 4x4s. The earlier Napco trucks are popular and well known, the 67-72 body is common as dirt in a 4x4, but the early 60's are not. Were there not many made?

Not sure of production numbers but there were not to many made in early 60s i own a 1960 k-20 and a 1963 k-20

join the club i have a 61 gmc 1/2 4x4 ,not to many out there are there !

i have a few too.
60 chevy 4x4 1/2 ton shortbed s/s (wifes mudd racer)
61 gmc 4x4 l/b s/s (sons mudd racer)
62 gmc 4x4 Suburban (my daily driver)
65 Chevy 4x4 S/B fleetside (sons high school driver)
and a bunch of extra 4x4 axles and parts.
not many of the c-20's were made.

Don't know about actual numbers, but I have seen quite a few on ebay, craigslist and locally. I bet they were limited to the people who used them and used them up. Most I have seen in the northland (anything above Oklahoma City) they had snowplows on them and the salt ate them up for sure, the northern ones that were regularly driven had slightly less corrosion (the front fenders were still there). I have a 64 with 70k original miles and a 66 for parts I (both long fleetsides). That are more or less complete. Don't see as many of the 60-63 models though. My 64 came from Wyoming on a ranch, never got on the road much so the salt wasn't a problem, and evidently since of a frozen or dry climate, it was in really good shape.

Here's my '61. Built in Janesville, worked in South Dakota. Retired to New Hampshire!

John Gunnell's book "Chevrolet Pickups 1946-1972" has US production numbers starting with the 1965:
Chevy Van 42,999
C1400 (C10) 131,395
C1500 (C-10) 186,461
K1400 (K-10) 2,788
K1500 (K-10) 2,024
C2500 (C-20) 64,282
K2500 (K-20) 2,561
Total: 432,510

Only 1.70% were 4WD in '65. In '66 it's 1.83%. Back then, people who bought 4WD needed it and they tended to get hard use. My Dad bought my '64 K1404 for cutting firewood in northern New Mexico. It saw a lot of miles on Forest Service roads but the road salt is what did the worst damage.

If my 64 turns out 50% as nice as that truck above is, I will consider myself lucky.

i have a 65 chev shortbox stepside 4x4 it came out of arizona so the body is in really great shape
