Does the HEI use differant spark plugs than regular dist. and is the gap differant? Seems though years ago I ran into same problem but forgot. I went to Walmart(yeah, well it wasn't for the truck) to get just TWO sparkplugs for my lawnmower and it called for Champion plugs. Well, I get to Walmart, and every single last one of the plugs hadn't been assembled, or had cracked ceramic, or the list goes on and on. They break real easy putting them in. 2 of them broke & had nothing in them from the term on the end to the center electrode. I broke another open just to see & all it had was a spring & resister in it.
