I am new here and honestly having a hard time finding my way around. I am trying to get the long steering shaft out of the gearbox so I can lift the cab off. I got the wheel off. And the tube that surrounds the shaft. removed the clamp bolt on the box. Now I am stuck. Any suggestions? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | AJS, I'm going to guess on this as a '35 is way out of my league. All the later trucks had a steering shaft that was 'one piece' with the worm gear...it was a single, factory piece. To get the shaft out, you have to almost completely disassemble the steering box. It would be easier to just remove the box intact from the frame. Does this make sense. I have linked a picture of a '38 steering box. The picture says "car" but the page heading says "truck". Maybe it will give some some ideas. Good luck. http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/shop/1938/38csm212.htmlStuart | | | | | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 8 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 8 | Stuart thanks I think that is the case. I never would have thought 1 piece. I am headed out to pull the whole box off now. Thanks agaain.
