I have a 54 Chevy 150 with a 235. I'm on my third carb. They all leak! The latest one seems to be leaking at the gasket between the top and bottom. I suspected the float was too high, but when I tok the top off, the fuel level was way lower than the mating surface. This is getting frustrating! I had read about porosity in old over cleaned carbs being a problem and wondered about that. Any ideas?

Also, if I go with a later model carb, what/who is a good route? This is a stock engine and I probably won't go anything more than mild street when I rebuild it someday.

Thanks for the help.

Tony

Try putting 2 gaskets together and adjusting the float level to accomodate the new gasket thickness. It worked for me. The air horn is usually warped on the Rochesters.

I went through 2 rebuilts before I bough a new one through NAPA believe it or not. By the way it didn't cost much more than a rebuild, and was properly adjusted....just bolted it on and fired it up.

FYI. I tried carb kings fix for the warpage problem and ruined an air horn. I don't think I got it hot enough. My bad, not his advice. If you do try it just be careful is all.
