frown Well folks todays Toto run to get a '47 2ton truck that I bought at last weekends auction was a adventure I could have done without . You know when things start out TO good - something is going to jump out and get you . I had around 25+ miles of back country roads to get to the auction site . Things were going go until I was about 1/2 way there . Out in the middle of Nowhere - OH Darn ! is that a front tire going down - not the New front tire  - Yep surnuff was . Get the spare down - find the lug wrench - now where in the blazes is the Darn jack ohwell ? Remember you took it out to use on the forklift ? dang Darn dangDarn dangDarn !!! No farm houses in that area and No traffic . AHHH my cell phone ( hate the darn things - but still have one ) . Called the only person that I Knew could come with a jack and help ( P.S. guess who failed to renew his AAA last month after 10+ years of Never using/needing it ) . Sure he could come and help but was two countys away measuring grain bins for the government. 1 1/2 hrs. later here comes the jack and less than 10 minutes later Toto is back running down the road . A beautiful winding drive - up the hills - down the hills - get to the top of the hills and look and see a wonderful panorama of range land that you could see no foot prints of man less the road you were on smile . You darn sure you do not want to break down out there . Finally get to the the auction site and head down to where the truck is parked . Whoa thar Toto , eek seat pucker factor 10 . It had rained there several days before but was still WET and muddy/slick and a downhill slope to boot . Toto slips/slides down to the truck and finds the dryest wet spot near the '47 and backs as close as one could without being up to you axle in mud . Get the bed raised - cable played out as far as it would go and added a 25' chain to that . Hooked up and pulled the Beast up onto Totos bed and watched the rear tires slowly sink into the wet grass . Lowered the bed - chained the truck down and hoped for the best big_eek. Had to rock forward/back several times to get going . My poor right leg has one Big bruse from that Darn floor stick . Second and reverse are two places where my long legs get in the way and always get beat to death if I have to use them a lot . That poor farmers field was so Torn up with Toto kicking up her heals and flinging grass/mud everywhere but I did not even dare to slow down/stop for any nono reason . Took it nice and easy back to my friends ranch and  Darn it if his area wasn't wet as heck also . So back home Toto goes with her new friend on her back . And there she sits loaded down waiting for the fields to dry . One last thing - I forgot the camera pix - so this Toto adventure ( thank goodness ) has no pictures to share . Ain't Old Trucks just the Funest Things ! thumbs_up ED H

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Alvin ; I don't chain the bed anymore . I rarely make a a$$ out of myself doing the same thing Twice . I just do some other darn fool thing like Forget the jack ( that will not happen again ) . I might have to wright a book of darn fool things I've done with ( and to ) TOTO and give it out at next years reunion . And like Don says - the main thing is " mission accomplished ". Rick - your trip will be just fine and if not you have a better tail to tell us . But remember take pictures !!! ED H

Contrary to what folks around the country may think, Kansas is 'way far away from flat--'specially in the Eastern third of the State! But you know that.

Too bad you didn't have someone shootin' videos of you and TOTO playin' around and flingin' mud all over creation.

Trust me, I know about the surprise flat. Usually happens to me just when everything is going ok, I take a few minutes to stop for a cup of coffee and a smoke--find out what is the latest in stories and lies about town, then head out to the truck to find all the air in a tire just decided to join the birds.

How does that happen? I mean, the air in the tire is secured with some of the simplest technology known to man, and it stays there for months--even years--then all of a sudden, for who knows what reason, when ya ain't watchin', "whoosh!" its gone!
I swear, the tire tells the air when to go. "Its ok now, he left the jack t' home. So y'all git on outta here!" And out goes the air.

Don't make no darn sense!

Drivin' down a 2 lane country road in a stovebolt.....cowboy, it don't get no better than this!

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.... and smarter.
