The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Is stock fuel pump enough?

I'm still having problems on my late 235 with a fenton duel intake. It has 2 holly single barrel carbs and when i step on the throttle rapidly it almost dies. The intake has a heater on it as suggested, but problem still persists. I wonder if the fuel pump is the problem I have the one with a glass bowl on it. Maybe it doesn't put out enough fuel for 2 carbs. Cecil.......

The stock pump is more than adequate, even for three carburetors. I'll guess your problem is a tuning/timing issue or much more probable, a carburetor issue proper.

Remember, when you stomp the throttle, you are working off of fuel in the bowls themselves...the pump just has to keep them full, which is pretty easy. That's my thought.

Yeah, what Atomarc said. I think the most common problem with fuel pumps, other than the originals, is too much flow rather than too little.

I also have a hesitation from idle, if I stomp on the pedal (not in gear) it bogs, and will stall unless I let up.
I'm running a holly/weber from langdon's.
I'm messing around with tuning/timing using a tach/dwell meter, timing light and vac guage. No luck yet, though!
