I know you will enjoy Stovebolting. There is plenty of help & advice available on this website. It's best not to capitalize your post. It resembles yelling. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I would like to put a 3" drop axle,3" drop springs in the rear.. since she has 327 i think i need to get rid of that 3 speed and start looking for a 4 speed..as for the body since its in decent shape it will be one of the last things i do (but i will have to get rid of that ugly blue-green) | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 118 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 118 | Did you here that Leonard? That word is used very loosely around here. The term Stovebolt came from the old,old straight six Chevy engines.I have a 1955,2nd powered by a 350 Smallblock and 700R4 trans. Also a 1965 powered by a 500 Cu.in. Caddy engine hooked to a 400 turbo automatic. I guess both of these truck could have been classified as stovebolts at one time, before the sixes were replaced with some real power. They are both great running and looking trucks, and are actually streetrods, just the way I like them. But they are no way Stovebolts any more.

But for purposes of this web site, we have loosened the definition just a tad, just a teenie skoosh (okay, so it's a hole the Hoover dam couldn't block...)
The official word here is that if it is a truck made by General Motors (or any of it's ancestor companies like Rapid or Samson, for example) then it's a "Stovebolt" here. Billy Marlow's '72 GMC 9000 with the 6-71 Detroit is a Stovebolt here as much as my '49 Chevy with a babbited 235. Or your streetrod with the Caddie 500 (great engine, by the way!).
We originally started out just for '39 and '40 Chevrolet trucks (back in '95) but that was too restrictive and after Tom Brownell suggested we expand to cover more years, we went all out and opened it up to everything GM up to '73. The site really took off after that (about '99/2000).
Historically accurate? No. Fun? I certainly hope so!!
Regards, John
