I got my truck, which sat at my grandma's for 12 years. I have the urge to restore a vehicle all of a sudden. It used to be my Dad's and he gave it to me when I was in High School. I had him tow it to me this summer. So far I am having a lot of fun with it. I will have a lot of questions, and I hope most people on here are patient and answer even the stupid questions. Because about 6 months ago, changing my oil was about all I knew how to do. I've learned a lot since starting to rebuild a 235 engine. Well that is a little background. Here are some pics of my 53 chevy.

Welcome David. Glad to have you join us. That truck looks to be in pretty decent shape already. I see your rolling chassis sitting there, just the point mine is at, also a 1953 half ton. Don't worry about asking stupid questions, it's even stupider not to ask. You'll soon meet others here, some live close to you, I'm sure.

davidn, nice truck project going there. Oh, there is NO stupid questions. We have all had our turn asking them ourselves!! This is a great site and lots of knowledgeable folks around here. As one bolter puts it "knowledge is the best resource" and there is plenty of it her. Good luck on the project. It looks like you got a nice dry place to work on it.

Oh, before the moderators get you try to put your photo's in something like photobucket or webshots or something like that and just post links.....something about it uses up lots of band width?!
Keep us posted. Lots of AD trucks around and you can get most parts from some reputable sources. Just ask the questions!!

Welcome David. Looks like a great project you have going. As has been said before there are no stupid questions on this site. Everyone here is awsome. I belong to some other automotive sites and it seems really easy to tick someone off on them, but not here. Stovebolt page is the absolute best!!!

Welcome David,

Nice work on the engine and all the rest. I've never seen anyone use an engine hoise to lift up a cab like that before, It gace me an idea on mone, but how did/do you balance it a few friends and a 6 pack?

I actually did that alone. It was kind of wobbly. So I'd recomend two 2by8's going through the cab. I only had one. Connect the two boards together with a smaller 2by8 perpendicular. So basically make and "H" out of 2by8 boards. Use the cherry picker like a jack. Making an"H" should even out the weight and make it less wobbly. And don't run into the problem I had putting it on the cart. remember to make your cart tall enough so the legs of the cherry picker fit under it. So the cab can go streight down onto the cart.

thanks everyone for the compliments and welcomes.

Welcome David,

Those engine hoists really come in handy.

Stupid questions? Not a chance. Just look at my posts, talk about stupid. But every question was answered here at the "Bolt." This site has given me and numerous others great advise, direction and tricks to navigate around the site. Have fun with your truck!
