I have been having an eratic speedometer. It holds steady for a while then goes back and forth any suggestions?

If lubing doesn't help you'll probably need to have it rebuilt.

Once I return it to it's favorite spot it's as steady as a rock.
As for grease on the cable....I think the recommended lube is a graphite based powder that won't stiffen up with cold weather.

Mine was doing the same thing, tried to lube it, no help, finally snapped the neddle off of it. had to replace the speedo. I figured it was worn out because it howled like a dog, a BIG dog when it was cold. | | |
