Barry, I'll get the order in today. I'll also throw in a $1.00 for a McGurk Engineering T-shirt. I plan on getting there Thurs. morning, hopefully around 8:00 to 9:00, if I can get the boy out of bed by 4:00 AM. I just plan on being there Thurs. and Fri. and getting out of Dodge by Fri. afternoon.

Maybe meet up around noon Thurs. at the tower? Gotta get me some deep fried cheese curds for nourishment.

Sounds like a plan. I'll be wearing a light blue work shirt that says: "Weeks-End Machine" on the front and a white cap from the Hershey Swap Meet. Should be carrying a bag full of parts. (I hope)

Mister Barry Weeks!! I just received the copies of the old California Bill Fisher catalog! That is cool! Yep, right here on page 7 is a picture of my California Bill Side Pushrod Cover!!!!!!!!!
Bill was into the Nicson intakes, too, it looks like. And here, too, are the Cyclone intakes. Interesting that they had no provisions for heat and are called "cold" intakes!! I always figured he had his name on some other stuff, but I guess not. The only thing appears to be the side cover. He does advertise Douglass Steel Packed Mufflers for $5.96 each!! I have about six of them plus the two that have been on my truck since 1980 and I paid $35.00 each for them.
Very nice Barry!! I appreciate that very much!!Thank you! grin

Good to hear the copies got to you guys OK. I'm glad there is someone to share this fascination of old aluminum junk with. To most, it would just be old scrap alum. melted down and recast as auto parts, to me it's a form of artwork. Each piece is different and unique and has a history behind it.

Hi All, This is one of the most interesting threads that I have read in a while on the bolt. I thank you all for taking the time to preserve these great pieces of history. I can only imagine that all the bolters would like to see what some of these rare intakes and covers look like. Have you ever considered taking pictures of these parts and submitting them and an article to the Stovebolt Newsletter or even an online site for all to enjoy. Those old speed parts are non-existent in this part of the country. All I have ever seen live in person was some home-made split manifolds. Keep up the good work.

I hope to get something in for July with computer questions, etc. We've had several people offer to "host" pictures and this way I can keep track of who they are -- but the Bolters can work directly with them. I can use the help.

I think everyone agrees pictures are great.

And ... and ... who will be wearing a Stovebolt t-shirt? Huh, huh, huh?

Not even a Stovebolt hat, I bet.

I'm crushed.

Would you guys be able to tell me what the center to center distance is on the dual manifolds? Are they all the same? I'd like to know how far apart the carbs are at the air horn (Rochester B)as I want to design a billet air cleaner to attach to both carbs and use a large oval element. Thanks

I would buy the intake first and then go from there since some are spaced different.Vintage Speed carrys that style(not billet but cast alum)air cleaner.I personally do not care for the 2 carb/one air cleaner look.

Curt, like ViejitosCC says, get the manifold first.I had to run Carter YF's on the Edelbrock on the 216 in my '50. The rear Rochester carb would not clear the firewall to fender brace. The YF, being a narrow carb with the float bowl out front, tucked in real nice. Topped off with a pair of original oil bath air cleaners.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't heard more on the problem of certain 2 X 1 set ups having problems with the AD shifting forks on some of intakes and this problem of the radiator brace getting in the way of some of the intakes, or at least the carbs on the intakes.

From what I've seen, it is only by accident if two intakes have the same spacing between the carbs. Everyone at that time had a theory as to where the carb should sit on their own particular intake. For example, Edelbrock claimed that carbs sat on the intake exactly half way between the ports it was serving. Others seemed to think it had to do with vaccum and the carb needed to be placed so each carb had the same vaccum pull depening on that intakes design.

If you could build an air cleaner with a sliding adjustment under the canope so the fitter would move back and forth to accomodate the spacing, you would have something.

ViejitosCC, So thats where they all are. I sould have clarified that I meant out here in the country. I know where there are 30 or 40 old trucks rusting away, but they are all just stock farm and ranch trucks. I would like to see your speed parts in person someday. I get to Albuquerque once in a while, and its just a skip and a jump to Belin.

Jaime- I just reread this thread from a year ago, after you brought it back up today. This was one of the most interesting threads we ever had on here! Now I see why you dredged it back up.

Darin - Don't wait too long for a good deal. I've done that before and then ended up paying more after a couple years have gone by. 6-cylinder speed parts that were $20 15 short years ago are now $300. Parts that were $200 then are now $1000, IF YOU CAN EVEN FIND THEM!

I'm back for another look and another visit to this subject - definitely one of the more exciting subjects ever posted! Of course, I live Chevrolet first series speed parts and dress up equipment. wink Not just the intakes, but all of the other things. There is only about five or six things that get me going grin and a nice big table full of these parts at a swap meet do it quick . . and that same guy was out at Pate again this year. Same space, same table, same parts, mostly intakes, and those $450.00 and $600.00 dollar prices, but his stuff is very nice!

Jim - we can add Clifford to the list, but they're more of a recent player in my mind.

Darin367 - the good deal is now! wink

I hope the Fed never sees the inflation numbers on this stuff. They will raise the interest rate to double digits, in the morning!! grin

I love this topic.

I'm kinda fond of my Clifford power parts and it makes me a little sad that they were left off the list until just a few posts ago. I've got a Clifford intake and a set of their shorty headers on my '54 engine. And I topped it with a demon 350 cfm carb. The old 235 really barks now. I guess the only problem I have with their parts is that they don't look vintage. The intake isn't bad but the round tube headers dont look original. But hey, you can always use fentons. I think I'm going to end up with Clifford's rebuild kit next. That's my take on the whole thing. Whatever you do just don't rule Clifford out, they make good parts.

I did not know you were only talking vintage stuff.
but then again jack clifford started his business in the mid 50's

I've heard there are other cool alternatives -some still available, some not. Pictures are worth a thousand words!
then again the first string did not mention otherwise ... && it's available and look good on an old bolt.

I ONLY wish I could use half this stuff ie. McGirk & edmunds on my 292 !!! i'm limited because of the 292 eek eek

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure the Clifford setup works very good but the eye of this beholder sees an intake that's almost as ugly as the 4BBL carbs it was designed to accept.

In all fairness, Offenhauser also made, or makes, a 4BBL intake for these same engines.

I'm not trying to eliminate Clifford from the list, Jim and aardvark truckin'. I just never have considered their stuff to fall into the "collectable" catagory. That may just be me!

It's been a year since I asked and I've seen many of them now. I bought an Edelbrock and a McGurk. I've decided to use the Edelbrock since it came with a nice solid linkage and is in excellent condition. It's a tough choice because most of them have thier own cool style! Gotta agree with some of you about the Clifford though - that one just doesn't do it for me.

That's what I'm running now on my truck - an Edelbrock. Nice looking intake and it seems to work well. I, too, was after the "solid" linkage instead of the "floating" linkage. I'll run it until I see something I like better and then I'll redecorate!

No, Edelbrock didn't make a valve cover. There was Fenton, Nicson (early and late). C.A.W., Edmunds, Sharp, Offenhauser, Wayne, Special (Wayne) and McGurk. Oh yeh, Clifford! grin
