| | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 37 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 37 | Need your input on this one - just finished rebuilding my 216 engine and now that everything is clean and painted all nice, I have a leaking water pump. Leak is very small - fluid is detected on the pump body behind the pulley. It leaks down the pump body to the block and eventually wicks along the oil pan flange. Anyway, its an original pump. Any ideas where/who could repair this type of pump? Or, is it better to just get a new "modern" pump from Filling Station, JC, NAPA or elsewhere?

The seal is a spring-loaded carbon ring running against a ceramic face, and occasionally it takes a little run time for the running surfaces to mate again after being out of operation for some time.
It'll get better- - - -or a lot worse- - - -in a few hours of run time!

My grandpa swore by the black pepper (temperary repair). But as a more permanent repair replace the pump.
What ever you do never NEVER!!!!!! use liquid glass or stop leak on your vehicle unless all other means or repair are exhausted.

I bought it with the thought that it was a 216, however it may be a 235. That being said the water pump began leaking a yr. ago. I went to my Car Quest parts store and they were able to replace it with a rebuild. They told me it came out of chicago.
