The Funny truck sure is different! What kind of times does it run in it's present form? The ton and a half is pretty neat too! It would run in the 7 20"s on a good track like Memphis or Bowling Green. It was not super fast but very consistent which is what wins bracket races. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | My kind of truck! Enjoyed the pictures, looks like you and your son are having a ton of fun! I don't know much about racing but do you mean eighth (1/8th) mile racing? It would probaly take me eight miles to get my truck up to 46 MPH! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 5 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2008 Posts: 5 | You are correct. It is 1/8 mile bracket racing. For those who are keeping up with this thread, the 53 ton and half now has air bag bags and shock on all four corners. This made a big difference in the ride. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 "MONGO" | | "MONGO" Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 623 | Love the Funny truck, So is the Big bolt gonna become the official Tow rig for the funny truck? I have posted a picture of the way I think they will look when the project is done in the 1953 4400 BIG TRUCK link on the first post.
This is also a list of the things done to the 53 since it came to my place.
New tires mounted on the original Widow Maker Wheels Total rebuild of the 1954 GMC 235 motor with Mallory electronic ignition Rewire from fire wall forward Air bags and shocks on all 4 corners Total front end rebuild including spindles, tie rods, bearings, king pins, and brakes Moved battery to under hood and converted to 12 volts with alternator New clutch, throw out bearing and emergency brake pads All new rubber for cab and doors, new head liner and window whiskers Rebuilt inside cab and covered with diamond plate Lokar throttle linkage and pedal Fabricated vinyl boot covers for shifter and emergency brake handle Converted starter to dash button and solenoid start Air horns with compressor and tank which also services the suspension air bags
