What does an original cigar lighter for an Art Deco truck look like? Anybody have a picture?

I bought an original one for my '53 awhile back and was wondering if it was the same one used in the 1941-47.1 trucks.

It looks pretty much like any other cigar/cigarette lighter except, the handle matches the other "rose" dash knobs, i.e. choke, throttle, and window crank handles.

I don't have a picture loaded on the computer, but if you need one, let me know and I'll go out and take one for you.

Id love to see a picture if its not to much trouble. Was that the original type, or is that a replacement that the vendors sell? I know the Advance Design repro knobs look like the headlight knobs, which isnt original.

I know you are looking for information on earlier lighter knobs but I would like to correct a mis-understanding brought on by reproduction parts sellers.

The "reproduction" Advance-Design lighter knobs are made to look like the headlight/choke/throttle knobs ( 47-53 and 54-55) but those reproductions are not at all like the original Advance-Design cigarette/cigar lighter knob: 47-53 and 54-55.

I have a larger/nicer picture of a 1939 Chevrolet truck accessory lighter, if you want me to scan and post it.

It would appear that the '39 is similar to the '47-55 so Id hasten a guess the '41-47 is somewhere in the middle of those two. I tore my dash out of my COE a few weeks back and am in the process of refurbishing it. Today I installed the lighter plug and I started wondering what an original lighter looked like.

I'll try and e-mail you a pic tomorrow afternoon. The lighter I have, I believe to be an original. It is aged too appropriately to be an aftermarket part.

Lighter elements burnt out, and most gas stations and general stores sold a wide variety of replacement lighter elements and knobs.

Still haven't heard how the "cats eye" was illuminated. The knob I saw was just hollow with the jewel plugging the hole. It had a large female thread that the element screwed into. So there had to be a path for the glow from the element to show thru. All of the elements that I’ve seen were solid and had the knob screwed into a tapped hole.
Sure like to see one that was unscrewed from its element.

No guarantee's this is absolutely correct, particularly with the age of the truck...

It doesn't match the squared off choke and throttle knobs, but it sure matches the design of the cowl vent knob, so I'm sticking with it.

There was a complete cars eye lighter and receptacle that sold on ebay earlier in the week. I put a bid on it, but did not come close to the sale price of $102.00

It looks like the glow from the heated-element illuminates through the colored glass through the hollow barrel. They have threaded, hollow barrels, as you describe above.

I am looking for the lighter for my truck, did a search and found this thread. There was nothing but the hole in the dash when I bought my truck. So, if I am reading the above correctly, is the picture that Eric linked in his post what I should be looking for for my '46? Is that the closest I will find that will match the choke and throttle knobs?
