I thought I would share some of the pictures I took while my family and I where in Rapid City, South Dakota in August. We when to three cool junk yards with lots of stuff, wish I could have brought more parts home than I did. Next time maybe. It was about a 5520 mile trip from Florida to South Dakota, Wisconsin and back home in 17 days. The kids loved it. I did get to visit four other Stovebolters in my travels. I even brought home some more parts for my grandfather's 1934 1 1/2 ton Chevy.
Enjoy the pictures.

Hi Mike,
Are you willing to divulge the locations?
I have a 36 pickup that I'm restoring and could use some of the pieces on a couple of those!
Nice pictures--- thanks for posting.

I bought some stuff in that area a few years ago. Much of it was not as good as it looked at first glance. Wherever dirt settled they were rusted from the inside out. It is amazing though of all the stuff there and of course it isn't as bad as salt damage. Natives of that area told me that it was too far from a scrap metal buyer to haul so whenever vehicles quit, they just stayed at the repair shop or on the owners property.

Glenn, is your 36 a high cab or low cab? Which picture is it what you are needing to know?
Some picture are from Moore's Salvage Yard in Rapid City. He didn't have hardly and Chevy trucks.
That 36 panel which I don't think was for sale is at Jim's Salvage in Sturgis, SD. That truck was in an area of his personal projects. I was there during the Ralley and he stays closed until that week is over. I was able to go there the following week and get a couple of parts.
The other yard was in Edgemont,SD. That is where I got a front fender and parts off the 34-35 1/2 ton that was smashed up bad.
I want to "wishing" go back there and get the rest of the truck for the frame and bed. I know of a high cab in MT if interested.

You better hurry, Moore's is starting to crush cars. They are a big Mopar yard and the Chevys are going first, in fact most are now gone.

Moore's had to have crushed over 100 vehicles since I was there last summer. And they didn't have but a very few Chevys left.
I found a roof section and door that missed the scrap truck.
They weren't too good of shape but still worth buying and taking home for parts.
Jim's Salvage yard in Sturgis, SD said they would be selling online soon. He asks a pretty $$$ for his stuff, but compare it to the price of newer vehicle parts it really isn't so bad. This isn't a cheap hobby.

Hi Mike, Mine is a low cab-- originally from California but abused over the years-- I need rear fenders and trim pieces, etc.
Thanks for the info.
Where is the one in Montana? I'm in Missoula (western end of the state)but able to travel for good parts.
Thanks again,
Glenn

Didn't happen to get by THIS YARD in S. Dakota did you?
I got my 57 there. He seemed like a nice guy & was helpful getting my truck down here & getting the title, etc. He has lots & lots of trucks & cars there. Any of you bolters up that way know anything about his yard?

I loved looking at the pictures you posted. Must have been a great trip. Bet it feels good to be home again.

Well, I have never been to Harry's Yard but I did buy the one truck I call the SD 1934 Truck in my other pictures. Yes he was great to deal with. I even got a title with the truck too. He directed me to the trucking company listed on his site. They were easy to work with too. I would recommend them anyday.
I hope to visit there someday when I am back up that way. I have looked at his site for about 5 years now and hope to see some more 34-36s. I can't wait to go again, even with my 3 little kids in the truck with me.

I hit one of the junk yards there the first time I went out for bike week. Then, I was way more into bikes than cars (I had never even owned a car at that point) but I still remember being floored but the number of cool vehicles that had found there way into the junk yard there and had still yet to be crushed. I actually think that the seeds of my later interest were planted then. Ironic that it was during bike week.
