I have a 52 3100 I had just converted from a closed driveline to an open driveline. The pinion seal on the replacement rearend is leaking. NAPA lists three different possible rears for the year rearend I had installed which is between 54-59. How can I tell which rearend it is and can I replace the seal myself. Do I just remove the driveshaft, the the big nut, pop out the seal and install the new one? Is it that simple?

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

It is almost that simple. After removeing the drive shaft mark the shaft & nut so they can be tightened back where it was. Remove the nut. A hammer will probably remove the flange but you may need a puller. Then dig the seal out. You can probably find a number & brand on the old seal & the parts store can cross it over if its a different brand then what they handle. If not they can match it up by dementions.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
