Windlace pinch channel. Is it welded or screwed to the body? If it is welded, it would be 1950, if it is screwed it is 1949 or earlier.
1950 Tube shocks
Firewall: Does it have the reinforcement pattern or is the firewall smooth?1947/8 have smooth firewalls and the 1949 and up have the reinforcement pattern. 1949 has them on the lower portion of the firewall and the later years included them on the upper portion too.
The side vent handle has a knob on the 1947/9 and in 1950 they removed the knob and made it a flat metal lever.
Does it have a drip ridge at the top of the firewall where the hood meets the firewall cowl? 1947 2nd does not and the 1948 does.
1947 does not have an indent on the dash for the shifter, they came with a 3 speed floor shifter, this was changed in 1948.
The 1947 frame does not have the foot parking brake brackets. It had a drive shaft mounted parking brake .
1947/8 had their gas tank mounted on the bed frame. The 1949 installed them in the cab and there is a hole in the cab for the filler tube.

The later cabs had a shackle on each side mounted between the cab and the frame whereas I think the 47 had a center mount. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 | the gas tank is mounted behind the seat. dun got dark to check the other stuff. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 | it looks like standard shocks with the brackets still there. the shocks are gone | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | If you are talking about a 1 Ton, they didn't use shocks in the rear, or at least on the flatbed they didn't. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,780 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,780 | If t had tube shocks, most likely it is a 1950 chevrolet (first year). I think GMC came out with tube shocks in 1951. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 | | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 | i have 54 flat bed that is a 3/4 , the other is a 1/2 ton that im trying to id. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 149 | i guess its a 50, it has the lever for the drivers vent. thanks for your help | | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,780 Master Gabster | | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 1,780 | This is the metal channel that the rubber weather stripping (windlace) goes into. It surrounds the inside door opening and the cab is shielded from the wind. This is not the rubber seal that attaches to the door. If you look at the opening, you will see the rubber that attaches to the body around the door opening, the pinch channel is the piece that holds it against the body. | | |
