trying to id what year my truck is.motor being replaced with no motor or id tag. the outside door handles turn, there is a air vent on the drivers side, dont know but it has some stainless steel molding on the front fenders , could have been added. the heater is sorta small and you can see the heater coils from the top. its not like my 53 that takes up the passensager side under the dash. the rearend is still in.

Have you got any pix?

This would certainly help.

Because of the door handles and vent on drivers side, I would ID this as a 1947/50. Now if you want to identify it more exacting, check out these areas to determine what year you may have

Windlace pinch channel. Is it welded or screwed to the body? If it is welded, it would be 1950, if it is screwed it is 1949 or earlier.

1950 Tube shocks

Firewall: Does it have the reinforcement pattern or is the firewall smooth?1947/8 have smooth firewalls and the 1949 and up have the reinforcement pattern. 1949 has them on the lower portion of the firewall and the later years included them on the upper portion too.

The side vent handle has a knob on the 1947/9 and in 1950 they removed the knob and made it a flat metal lever.

Does it have a drip ridge at the top of the firewall where the hood meets the firewall cowl? 1947 2nd does not and the 1948 does.

1947 does not have an indent on the dash for the shifter, they came with a 3 speed floor shifter, this was changed in 1948.

The 1947 frame does not have the foot parking brake brackets. It had a drive shaft mounted parking brake .

1947/8 had their gas tank mounted on the bed frame. The 1949 installed them in the cab and there is a hole in the cab for the filler tube.

Also, the 47 had a different mounting for the cab at the rear. The later cabs had a shackle on each side mounted between the cab and the frame whereas I think the 47 had a center mount.

If you are talking about a 1 Ton, they didn't use shocks in the rear, or at least on the flatbed they didn't.

If t had tube shocks, most likely it is a 1950 chevrolet (first year). I think GMC came out with tube shocks in 1951.

This is the metal channel that the rubber weather stripping (windlace) goes into. It surrounds the inside door opening and the cab is shielded from the wind. This is not the rubber seal that attaches to the door.

If you look at the opening, you will see the rubber that attaches to the body around the door opening, the pinch channel is the piece that holds it against the body.
