The Hydramatic has something like 26 bolts holding the fluid coupling housing to the flywheel, and the Allison might have somethiong similar. I've got a GMC 401 in my fire truck, but it's got a 5-speed manual trans.

Grigg | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | I don't know anything about this setup, but on a conventional rig, car or truck, the input shaft stabs the torque converter and it isn't 100% necessary to pull the converter from the flexplate to separate the combo. You can pull the tranny and leave the converter in place. This might be different for this big truck, or something else could be binding.
Stuart | | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 207 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 207 | ok i went add started scraping off more grease and found a little cover halfway behind the oil pan and then took all of the torque converter nuts off, there was 6 of them. then i got on the tractor and started to take engine out and it came about 6 inches then one of the studs on the torque converter caught the flexplate and bent it. it;s not the normal kind, it's about 5 layers of flat metal bolted to the center of the flywheel, do you think i could flatten it enough and have it still work or do i have to get a new one. if i have to get a new one do you think NAPA could get it? | | |
