#4440 07/20/2003 11:21 PM | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | Guess I should determine if I have a truck or car eng then cause I do not know what to compare the width with, Hold on, let me check with my Jim Carter's book, looks like 41 to 52 has 3/4 inch pulley and 53 to 55 has 3/8 inch so I would bet that mine is 3/8 inch, it is only about 102 so I will check later,,,I keep forgetting that I have his book around..thanks....Fred

Or, was the longer shaft for both cars and trucks from '55-'62?

,eliminates the need to move the radiator forward and has the 3/8 grove as required for the correct pulley,so I dont know if his is from a car or not, looks like it is? his longer one is $75 for my truck and the shorter shaft is $93.45, I am still confused, is this short one a special design from him or is it a car one.. and , guess I need not worry because his short one is for a 55-62 eng and my is a 54 -235 eng, I did not know their was that much difference,,oh well,Fred

I just installed a 1954 235(truck engine) in my 1953 3100. No problems. The pulley is separate, comes off when you remove the fan bolts. You should be able get a rebuilt pump at your local mom & pop parts store, if you need one. Should be far less than $75.
The 54 and early 55 235 have the water pump in the same location as the 216. Pump was moved in 55, and the engine compartment was lengthened. The "short shaft" pump being sold is to fit a 55 & later 235 in a 216 bay.
You now either understand or are completely comfused!

The pump is an original that I shortened with a press and grinder. The pulley is a fomoco one that I took off a junkyard truck. It bolted in perfectly. I run an electric fan, but there is a small amount of room in there for a mechanical fan if you want to. The radiator and motor mounts are in the stock location.
