Hey sorry if this is an old topic but I look for info in the forum and couldn't find the info.
I need some reference and parts for the inner workings of how the barn doors on my 52 panel are supposed to work.
Currently the left rear door is held closed with a C-clamp and I modified a 1950's left side door handle for the right rear door to latch it to the left. Not a pretty scenario but it works more or less. I looked high and low for a panel door handle before I did my custom rear door handle modification including building a plate/spacer to keep the handle for scratching the door. Someone told that the rear door handle is the "Holy Grail" for panel van restorers. I can only imagine that the proper workings for the left door are going to be the same way. If so does anybody have some cool mickey mouse tricks for me? It doesn't have to be original but it does need to work and allow me to keep my panel locked. You bust 'em we make it custom!

Dean, I did not take any shots showing them before taking the door latches apart on my 52 but I can say they are pretty simple. What I could do if you like is to lay them out on my table like they suppose to be and take a snapshot if you want. I really need one of the "rods" that goes from the center latch of the left door down to the bottom latch. Actually the the rod to top and bottom are both the same.
i posted in teh swapmeet for one but no response's yet. Good luck on your project.

Alvin,

Pics would be great, if its a hassle, don't trouble yourself too much. I've pretty much braced myself for some custom fabrication. I'm sure that I'm mot the first Bolter to have to deal with having to create something out of nothing. The doors still need lots of work. I towed my panel home from a house 4 blocks from the pacific ocean so rust was an issue. The barn doors are still greatly constructed of sculptured bondo. Apparently they didn't use the same auto body techniques used today. Somebody cut a metal flap inside the door to knock a dent out from the inside. They never re-welded the flap just bent it back.

Tim,

Does the Az contact have parts for 41-46 Panels, too? I cannot find the rear door checks anywhere. I have almost resigned myself to buying another truck just to get these parts.

Thanks,
Josh

Dean, my wife has the digital camera but she is flying back from a trip tonight. I'll try to get them layed out and a pic to you this weekend.
