Thinking maybe putting a good-ole 350 in the '67 one day. Where and how much could I find a brand new, very basic engine?

Hmmm, if I had an S-10, I'd probably lean towards a supercharged version of the 3800 V6. Cruising down the highway, it's still a more economical V6.

But I can't blame anyone for wanting a V8. They are the perfect balance between towing and economy.

GM has a HO crate engine with 330HP plus that is a nice engine. Its LIST price is around 4600 but with a good connection you can beat that by close to half! Add an intake and carb and you are set to GOOOOOOOO.... The car club I belong to purchased one and we have it on a trailer selling tickets (to benefit a charity). I actually have it sitting in my garage and it pounds the concrete pretty good. I think the dealer sold it to us for 2600. Considering the cost to really build one up that total price, and the warrantee, isn't that bad. Just my .02 cent worth.

The MPG is about the same with a 4.3 in a S-10 as a 5.0 or 5.7 would be in a full size. 19-22 mpg. Nothing to brag about.I think the problem is how the trucks are greared...3.42's or 3.73's in every one ive ever had. Alot of people with the 2.8 v6's swap them out for 3.4's. Some stock 3.4's make almost the same hp as a stock 4.3 and you would get more mpg but there are alot more proformance parts for a 4.3.

Scott..Call Bill Heard Chevrolet in Nashville. I bought a 5.7 crate engine there for $1200 a couple of years ago. 290 horsepower @ 5100 RPM, and 326 lb-ft of torque @ 3750 RPM on 87 octane fuel..you cant go wrong for that price.
