I have a 55 2nd series that has an electric windshield wiper assembly that "looks" like it came from something else. It has 1 blue wire that is going to the switch and a plug that is hanging down unattached that has 2 wires-black and white. Any ideas on how to start wiring it up? Thanks, Hugh

Hugh,

I don't know what you have or how it was factory wired. I will say this. You mention only three wires. If the motor is supplied with power (fused) through one wire, that leaves two remaining.

Unless the ON/OFF switch completes a path to ground, I would surmise that the switch requires two wires from the motor to complete a circuit to turn the motor on.

This is only a guesstimate on my part. Good luck and welcome to the Stovebolt.

I know that the third terminal on a VW was used to park the wipers. Not sure how it worked but that is what the schematic says.

If you have a photo someone will be able to tell you if it is stock chevy. You can also go to one of the (auto-discount-oriley-quest-zone) sites and look at some of the suspected models, that is if you have a clue what the wiper motor might be.

You can link a digital photo by putting it on one of the sites that host photos webshots, photobucket, etc. Then cut and paste the address into your reply.

There is a tech help on how to do the photos in IT short bus on this site.

Good luck

for sure a pic of the wiper unit would help you get useful answers - if it's from another year or make or a 'generic' unit, each might be set up different - the switch will be relevent too, one position or 2?

Sorry to have taken so long to get back. Here is a photo:

The Blue wire was fused so I hooked it up to +12 volts. The white and black wires then measured +12 volts each. I do not have a wiper switch but I figured that the switch must ground the wires to complete the circuit. When grounded, the black wire made the sound of a relay closing in the motor. When grounded, the white wire sounded like it wanted to turn the motor but didn't. Any further suggestions appreciated. This is a Delco unit but I could not see any numbers on it.
Thanks,
Hugh

Hugh,

This is still a toughie without having a switch and being able to do hands on mad scientist type work. I have enclosed a link to some pictures, one of which is a two speed wiper.

See if the diagram helps you any with wire functions.
