I need a source for a windshield wiper vacuum line check valve. I made up a 16 oz. tank to help my wipers keep going while I accelerate. It will give me about 2 complete wiper cycles when I pinch off the vacuum line to the vacuum tank from the intake manifold. I need a check valve to keep the vacuum from being lost to the intake manifold when I accelerate.

It needs to have a weak sping and an inlet and outlet of about 1/4 inch to match my vacuum lines. Anyone know of such an animal, please let me know. Thanks - Scott

NAPA and Mom&Pop parts stores should carry them.

These were used a lot on polution devises
on 70s-80s cars. They are available at parts
stores & salvage lots.

If there's room to hide it, you could use a much bigger reserve tank. I'd suggest a 30-lb. Freon drum from your local refrigeration repair shop. They're non-refillable, and most of the shops just discard them when they're empty. Drill a hole in one end big enough to accept a rubber grommet, and use the check valve from a power brake booster, and a 3/8" line to the intake manifold. Then solder a piece of 5/16" steel brake line into the other end, and run your vacuum line to the wiper control from there. Lots of reserve vacuum! Hide the tank under the bed or cab if necessary.

Just be sure to limit the oriface or hose size on that tank so it doesn't act like a vacuum leak when you are trying to start the engine...

How about a dual action fuel pump that has a vacuum port? Mine works pretty well.

Thanks for the varied replies. I'm going to have to check the sources you've mentioned and consider big tanks and a vac pump. Hard to decide. _Thanks - Scott

A lot of "newer" cars have a oneway check valve in their windsheild washer lines. It keeps the solvent from draining back to the tank. It should be close to the diameter and flow rate that you want.
Just a thought,
Scott

Try McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com) They have just about any type of check valve you may ever need.
