It wasn't completely assembled when I got it and I have a few questions for you bunch of wizards. I found the top of the radiator has been spaced forward 2 inches and the bottom is still in the original location. Fan has a spacer on it. It has a 58 235 in it. My understanding is it came with a 235, so I don't know why the rad is spaced at the top unless there are different water pumps for these engines. Because of the spacing, the inner fenders won't line up without alot of forcing them into position. I don't know if the inner fender lip goes inside the front fender lip sandwiched beteween the grill and outer fender,or outside the lip. Any help or pictures would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a COE, but my 49 has the fender sandwiched between the grill and the inner fender. If I take the spacer out between the fan and pump pulley, the fan will hit just about everything on the front of the engine. I appreciate the info on your sheetmetal. Yours will be the same as mine as far as assembly goes I think. Maybe Spanky will see this post and chime in for me also. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | The '58 235 is longer than the '53 235 in the water pump area. The '53-'54 235's have the water pump partially mounted to the head and it is up high. The later blocks have the water pump completely in the block and it mounts lower. Somebody moved the radiator to accomodate this. In the conventional cab trucks, people either shorten the water pump shaft and live with a fan that sits too low on the radiator, or get one of the water pump adaptor plates after market that let you use a 216 or early 235 water pump with a later block. I recommend doing this and putting the radiator back to the original location.

Again, thank you very much for the info. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 684 | The adapter plate can be purchased from Jim Carter Cleon | | |
