my truck started and ran about a year or two ago, and it sat outside hasnt been started ever since.

well i got a new battery, and put some gas in it and it turned over, but sounds pretty slow. it wont start and im wondering what i can do to help her start.

Fuel injector/ carb cleaner into the full tank of high octane gas. Pull the plugs and clean them. Check the distibutor cap and rotor clean off the points where the rotor hits as it spins. Clean the air filter or replace. Replace fuel filter. Theres more but thats basic. Sounds like it needs to have a good run,...idle it a bit high for 10 minutes to get all that carbon and varnish out of there. Check your rad fluid and oil levels before you start her up again. If ya can get her on the highway,...HAMMER DOWN BABY!!! woohooo!!! and get that snot out of her from sitting. Say,...wake up! get up! whos your frikken Daddy!!? Works for me everytime !....lol. i have new plugs that were left in the truck when we got it, they are ACdelco .r43. what is the difference between then and the ones that were already being used which say AC 44?

Very little difference. The 44 is one range hotter. The prefix R means they have resisters for radio suppression.

so can i use the r43's??

43's are too cold and will foul quickly. 43's were for heavy duty, that is a truck that was used to the max. Be sure to drain the gas and put in fresh gas. Stale gas causes valves to stick and that can lead to really horrible things. Clean your battery cable ends on both ends. At the battery and starter and the frame as well.

Might get some starting fluid. That helped mine when I started it for the first time. Just be sure to not overuse the starting fluid, from what I'm told it can blow the head off of your block.

Oh, duh, silly me, get your coil/sparkplug wire problems sorted out!

sprayed some carb cleaner in there and no luck so its defenatly sparking problem

i took off the ignition coil and there was alot of junk deposit at the bottom, where the sparkplug wire attaches, so i cleaned it so tomorrow ill try it out. if not, ill go and see about a new 6volt coil at the local auto part store, they seem pretty cheap at american classic.

after cleaning the coil, still no luck

i also charged the battery becuse it was dead, and it turns over but doesnt fire.

poured a LITTLE gas straight into the carb but STILL nothing.

any help guys?

It still sounds like your coil is bad, there's spark in the points, and your wires are new, right? So it almost has to be your coil.

i pulled them apart when the battery was connected, and it sparks when i pull them apart.

i also took a timing light, and attached it to the MIDDLE WIRE attaching to the coil, and when we cranked the engine, it flashed.

when we tried it on the other wires, no light flashed from the gun.

so why am i not getting the spark to go to the plugs... the wires are all brand new.and in the right order.

where is the ground strap on the points?

i can tell you the previous owner had the starter wired good, and when he droped it off in our yard, it started and ran good. this was about a year ago

we havent messed with it since.

well to tell you how stupid the fix was, we pulled up on the metal part on top of the roter, and then flipped the cap the other way and she sputtered to life!!

now, we are off to the brakes!!

there isnt any spark, so should i go to my flaps and get new points/coil/condencer?

Do you still have spark at the points? The only thing I can think of is if something burnt up when you started it the other day. If you don't have any spark at the points, get some new points(they should probably be replaced anyway) and a condenser. If you do, then that means that the condenser is fine because it is what stores the spark for the points. If that checks out, then it might be your coil.

alright well tomorrow ill se about getting new points and condencer and see how that goes
