#41440 04/15/2005 10:59 PM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | i have a newer three speed tranny behind my 54/235, i have to let the clutch out alittle and it clunks going from first to second and slips out of third as i drive along. ii i lay my arm on the floor shifter it will clunk in third but not come out of gear. any suggestions. ron

I don't know if I'm qualified to give advice but I had a similar problem with a 5-speed. It was poping out of 4th gear, mostly on deceleration. A linkage adjustment seemed to solve the problem.
Better check with one of the real mechanics on the board before you start grabbin' wrenches based on this reply but this was a pretty easy thing to fix.
I didn't have any clunking so you may have a bigger problem than I did. | | |
#41443 04/16/2005 1:34 AM | Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2001 Posts: 4,095 | the clunking comes from when i let out on the clutch to put in the next gear, i think linkage adustment. at the shop where i take the truck they said syncros also. i want to put a t-5 in but not this year. i have another trans from a 57 car, i think, painted orange any guess what it is? it drives fine i drove it over 100 miles last sat. stayed in gear as long as i kept my arm on the shifter no pressure just like an armrest. ron

#41444 04/16/2005 2:20 AM | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | yeah Ron, I had a 3spd in my 57 panel that ya hadta keep some weight on at steady highway speeds - sometimes you could go for many miles w/o it wanting to slide out, than it'd do it 2 or 3 times in a few miles - worked fine otherwise for the 13 years or so I used the truck - just passed that trans on to olblu49 today! the car trans is pretty much the same as the truck, and the orange color is just someone's idea of 'restoration' - no trans is ever painted Bill | | |
