the clutch feels strange...it works...but it seems to put the truck in gear much faster than the old one....like half the distance of clutch movement...whats it supposed to do?

I would think ya need to adjust your pedal a bit to get back the "FEEL" ya used to have seems your new one is just a bit tighter than the old.

In other words when you depress your clutch pedal there will be one inch of free travel before you feel it engaging. I havent dealt with a old school clutch in a while but I was almost sure you can adjust your pedal travel by the rod to move your pedal up an down ..to get the feel ya want ??.. like releasin quick as to a a few inches of the floor ?

That way the throw-out bearing isn't always in contact with the pressure plate, allowing it to spin at all times. That would wear it out in short order. A new clutch will feel different than an old one and apply closer to the floor which youy'll get used to quickly.,

It should take soft even pressure going down & engage smoothly without any chatter or abruptness.

Dale-yes you are loud and clear...starting to make sense to me now...
And Denny - I think U r right as well...the old disc was worn smooth...down the rivets....so far so good with the new kit...no grinding, resistance or chatter...just feels wierd...and judging by all the reponses I will have to be the one who adjusts to it...
I had put in clutch cables before...but never got this deep into it...and the surgery has changed the trucks reaction...
The gears engage at approxamately 3 inches from the floor...used to be 5 or 6...and I thought that was correct!
