If it's just surface rust with no repairs it's a bit high. My 38 grill cost almost $900 to do and all it had was surface rust. If it needs any repairs at all such as fixing dents, welding, etc. the cost goes up quick. I've seen rechromed grills sell on ebay for less than I paid but not all chrome jobs are created equal.

If your original is in good shape, i would get it rechromed. The one off of my '46 cost about $800 to rechrome and it was in good shape.
