While I'm waiting for my clutch to arrive in the mail, thought I'd take the opportunity to look inside the T5 I bought.
Are there telltale signs for synchro wear? What should I be looking at?
I haven't quite figured out how to remove the top cover and forks along with tail housing. Had it all loose but, couldn't seem to get it apart.
Do you have to unscrew the big button head star bolt to get top cover and forks out?

mugsy did you drain the fluid from the tranny yet? look for brass particles in the oil most shyncros rings are brass.

Yeah, fluid already drained out when I got it. It's a World Class T5 so it's supposed to have fiber lined synchros anyway. When I separated the tail housing, the 10 oz. or so of fluid that came out looked very clean.

A tow truck driver and AD lover friend of mine told me to take the T-5 I am getting to a tranny shop..they will pop the top and take a look at it. He said it won't cost much (how many times have you heard that one!!) Since I am not a tranny guy, I am planning on going that route. Might be worth a call?
