I would like to install my engine this weekend but before I can I need to buy the clutch. That sounds like an easy task however no one can identify the correct pressure to match with my flywheel.
The flywheel uses 9 bolts to mount the pressure plate and all 9 were used. All of the clutches that the truck/engine calls for only use 6 bolts to mount the pressure plate.
The truck is a 1950 and the engine is a 235 with a Mar 26, 1956 date code and the clutch plate is 10.5 inches. Does anyone know which clutch I need or what vehicle/engine this flywheel was orginally from?
Any insight would be helpful... I did see a post in another thread that indicated the flywheel was from a 228 but the local parts guy was not able to help me.

I had the same problem last year. Mine is in a 1953 2-ton chevy grain bed. The engine appears to be a 1954 built 261. I ordered two different clutch kits from NAPA and they both turned out to be the 6 bolt. I ended up having my 9 bolt rebuilt by a rebuilder in Fort Worth.
I never did find out the application for the 9 bolt but my other '53 chevy 2-ton winch truck has one too. It has the 53 style 235 in it. | | |

The 228 flywheel out of my 51 GMC 1 ton has 9 holes. Center to center measurement on the holes that are closest to being across the center is 11 13/16". From the wear it appears to have used a 10 1/2" clutch disk, or slightly larger. | | |

I have pulled a 54 235 engine out of a 1946 chev truck that had already been converted like yours. It ended up it was pulled out of a car with a standard trans with the truck trans bolted to it. I have recently purchased a clutch and mine is 9.5 inches but they asked if it was 9.5 or 10.5 diameter.
