Hi all,

I have a lead locally on what appears to be a good Spicer 'brownie box' direct, over and underdrive unit (for a fraction of the price of a Gear Vendor). These were mounted as an auxiliary transmission, and had no electronics, just linkage shifting with an extra stick.
I have a Ford (yeah i know...) 4WD with a C6 automatic. I have never seen one hooked up to an automatic.
I'm wondering if I could mount it behind my transfer case as a divorced unit, and put my transmission in neutral when I want to shift the Spicer.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

The biggest problem I see is the potential to have the transfer case engaged and then brownie is either over/under and tearing the hell out of the drivelines or worse. OK so maybe you wouldn't do it but how about someone else driving it and not understanding the situation?

What is the purpose of this anyway?

Good point about the 4WD situation, and I don't lend my truck.
The purpose is overdrive for highway use, with the possible advantage of underdrive in 2WD without getting out and locking hubs to use 4WD.

I suppose it could work..
But may be simpler, lighter, and less work to install an automatic OD transmission.
You can still put the transfer case in low range without locking the hubs if you occasionally need slow speed and torque.
