For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8 | Hey folks, I just picked up a 49 panel over the weekend... Something I plan on keeping and restoring for over the course of many years. I have some rot in the front fenders which I know are the same as the pickup fenders, but I am considering whether or not ro replace or repair the rears. Does anyone know how hard or not the rear fendrs are to find? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,517 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 1,517 | Have you ever found frogs hair? Thats about how hard the fenders are to find. I'm just somewhat kidding. If your rear fenders are repairable, repair them. You usually dont find straight, ready to go fenders, without paying serious dollars. Or...........theres always fiberglass ones. Check Evil-Bay. | | | | | | OLTrucks Unregistered | | OLTrucks Unregistered | I second Marty, Fix yours if they are with in any reason. Both have web pages.
That said I recently took my rear panel fenders to some local folks I know to look at and give me an estimate. He told me they would work the entire fender and put it in primer for between $150-$200 and that is with me blasting them. My fenders are not in really bad shape but defintely need work. So, for about the same money as new fiberglass I can get the metal ones fixed and NO shipping charges.
Now,, with that said I will say I also believe in fiberglass and as I've said here before ALL the fiberglass fenders and running boards I have on the 37 have held up extremely well for the pass 8 years. They came from R&R.
Hope this helps in some way....oh, I'm sure body shop charges very from shop to shop and state to state! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 8 | Thanks! I guess I will be restoring them! Don't really want to do the fiberglass thing. They areent too bad, I'm sure they can be repaired. | | |
