What was the widest stock 6 bolt 16” chevy truck wheel with hubcap clips. I have seen 4” and 4 ½”. Are there stock 5”? If so, what year, model did they come on.

My wheel width is about 5 1/4 inches from outside to outside. I am told they are 16 inch wheels. I have no idea what that means on whether they are 4" or 4 1/2". I wish somebody would shed some light on that.

I would also like to know what size tire to use.

I measure mine inside the bead and they are 4". I have some which measure 4.5"
Tire size if you are going bias-ply which I have (happily) done are 600-16 or 650-16 and radials would be 215-85R16. However my tire dealer would not put radials on my 4" rims as the specs call for a minimum of 6" or 6.5". Having said that there are a lot of old trucks with narrow rims running radials.

There are 5" and 5½" wheels. The 5" were offered on '54s and I'm sure on others. I saw a 5½" at a swap meet with the later style hub cap attachment.

By the way, they are measured bead to bead.

Thanks cletis, that is exactly the information that I was looking for. I will keep a eye out for the 5" with the clips. Oldblue, my experience has been that the outside to outside measurement is about 1 1/8" bigger then the bead to bead width. Not certain if that makes yours 4" or 4 1/2" wide.
