I just dropped of the radiator from my 52. They said it would need a new core(?) and it would run $300-$400. Does this sound right?

Seems high to me for a recore...buy yhen everything is getting pricier..you might check with other rad shops in your area...

gsintl,I just bought a new repro 47-55 4 rows of tubes with automatic cooling lines from Jim Caters for $290.00 after the 15% off discount they just had. I would think recoreing one would be cheaper then buying a new one.

Copper and Aluminum prices are at all time highs so I doubt if you’re going to ever see the prices come back down. With China rapidly moving into the industrial age all signs are that the days of cheap metals, gas and food are a thing of the past. This year China may pass the US as the world’s largest user of petroleum and with all the construction going on they will be using metals at an unbelievable rate for homes, infrastructure and manufacturing. The sleeping dragon is waking up guys.

I really doubt that JC radiators are going to sell for under $300 for very long. In fact I just priced one for an AD this afternoon and they are still at $308 and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them close to or over $400 by fall. LMC is still listing theirs for $399, Classic parts of America lists $375, $297 at Chevs of the 40’s, and The Filling Station is already at $445.

Like Capitol27 I purchased the new radiator from JimCarter while the 15% sale was on until 14th of April. At the time I called I was told they had gone up to $348 (give or take a dollar) and with the discount it was the same as Terry's.
Again, WHO quoted you that price. I may need to make a phone call if its cheaper now than then.

As regards to this post I think the price for recoring is high. Even at $348 it beat the recore price and it is ALL new and has the tranny cooler in the bottom....and is a 4 row. I think the ones for the AD trucks are the same as the Deserert Cooler we see folks talk about. In fact I'm sure they are the same radiator!!

Never said it was a quote Alvin, that's the price that is in their online catalog right now, this evening, $288 +$20 oversize shipping charge. Of course you have to tack on the shipping charges also. As were all the other prices I pulled from the online catalogs, just tryin to save the guy some leg work by looking up some numbers for him.

Oh yes, those were all prices on 3 row cores.

FYI guys, The price I mentioned above was with the 15% discout and no shipping. I drove down to Kansas City to flew out to Southern California. I drove to Jim Carters and pick up my radiator on my way back home. I didn't pay for shipping. I think Denny Graham is right when he said the cost will be going up. The longer you wait the more it will end up costing you. Nothing gets cheaper that's for sure. I still think having yours record would be a little cheaper. Check with your local radiator shops.

Denny, your correct. The price is what is in the catalog but the actual price has gone up.
Capital27, I'm still kicking myself for not buying it back in December before the price went up and we were getting 25% discount. I could have bought the same radiator then for about $225 plus shipping! I think they call this hindsight

NOW guess what, the radiator has to come off the 37 and it taint all that easy on it. Nevertheless its got to come out! Ugh!

I know what you mean Alvin, I could kick myself as well. Good luck taking the radiator out of your '37. Are you still thinking of driving it to Kansas City this September?

I know what ya mean about hindsight, I had my original radiator flushed out and pressure checked last year and thought seriously about buying a new one just in case. But, I dint and now like you say, the price is doubling.

If I could end my two-year search for one of those 4.10 gears for my 3600 I'd probably try and make the trip to KC my self. That 4.57 has got me strapped to about 13 mpg right now and it would cost me a few hundred bucks for gas to get there and back.

The Valdez spent the first 56 years of her life in Gray, IA, a small town just NE of KC, (pop. 168). She was bought new by them back in 1950 for use as their fire truck and city vehicle and finally auctioned off in '2006 and I got her shortly after that. I'll bet there are still some people left in town that would like to see here again and probably some good stories to be told that involved their city truck. In a small town like that she probably delivered a lot of furniture on the side and hauled a lot of kids around in Fourth of July and home coming parades.

Capitol27: I'm planning on driving to Kansas but the lady of the house may object unless I put A/C in it? Still, I'm leaning toward driving it. Just roll out the windshield and go about 70mph and she should be fine!!
The other "issue" is I want to take the tank out from UNDER the seat and I just hate to spend all the money when it will go a long way on the panel.....aw, decisions decisions. School bus riding will be over in 19 more school days and then I'll have more time to work on these things.

Denny, my panel spent its live in IA, a town called Fonda. Still had the 4 digit phone number on the door for Ace Hardware or the last owner O'Brien and Neavin....and the body shows it!!! The 37 got a new radiator back in 2000 but I used the original top and bottom and it has a "drip" right in the middle on the engine side. I can drive but the seam may completely go anytime. I tHink I'll wait until after the June show before taking it out.
