Welcome to the Stovebolt. I have no clue what year your new treasure might be, but the truck sure is interesting looking.
With all the winches and weird wrap around platform, it almost looks like it could have been some sort of well drilling rig.
Could long sections of drill pipe have been stacked on each side of the cab? If the truck is indigenous to the Sacramento valley area, maybe it was used to drill wells for the farms.

Maybe some type of shock absorber? | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 69 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 69 | Those are Gruss air springs, used as an accessory on many old trucks and busses. They are not shock-absorbers but actual air springs. Fill the bottom (one of two plugs, either one)with oil and pump them up with air (under the caps on top); they might still work. | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 8 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 8 | well you are not going to believe this. i was cleaning off the back bed and found the original data plate between two pieces of metal. its a K71B made in 1923. i did a google search and found this was the first year they started making this style and only 55 where built http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/chevytalk/canadiangmc.html | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | that's GMC's produced in Canada Steve, does the plate say "General Motors Truck Co of Canada Limited"? probably many more made in the US
