hello
I just picked up an old gmc truck. I really liked it so I bought it, but I have no idea what year it is or how to find info about it. any help would be appreciated. I have never seen a truck like this before.

Take a look on the driver's side front frame horn, the serial number will start with K, then the model (31, 41, 71 101).

Steve,

Welcome to the Stovebolt. I have no clue what year your new treasure might be, but the truck sure is interesting looking.

With all the winches and weird wrap around platform, it almost looks like it could have been some sort of well drilling rig.

Could long sections of drill pipe have been stacked on each side of the cab? If the truck is indigenous to the Sacramento valley area, maybe it was used to drill wells for the farms.

Definitely something to do with the suspension. Maybe some type of shock absorber?

Those are Gruss air springs, used as an accessory on many old trucks and busses. They are not shock-absorbers but actual air springs. Fill the bottom (one of two plugs, either one)with oil and pump them up with air (under the caps on top); they might still work.

well you are not going to believe this. i was cleaning off the back bed and found the original data plate between two pieces of metal. its a K71B made in 1923. i did a google search and found this was the first year they started making this style and only 55 where built http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/chevytalk/canadiangmc.html

your right i dont think it was made in canada. the only info i can read on the data plate is the model number K71B and the serial number K712076 . i used the year from the link i posted. the link said the engine was a NORTHWAY MODEL 88 but the engine in it has the big gmc lettering like on the front.

i still havent figured out what year it is. does anyone have any ideas on how to find out? are there any other gmc sites besides this one and oldgmctrucks.com? i was told it was a 1918 but i dont know how they came up with that. the 1923 year i came up with in the previous post was from the canadan gmc so that dosent help. i did find that one place listing them from 1916-1925 http://clubs.hemmings.com/clubsites/chevytalk/GMhistory...TRUCKMISCELLANY.html
