I'm working on a 63' for my Sis, replacing the wiring with some kits we bought from Classic Parts. The quality of the parts are not my issue. Where I'm hooking one part of the new harness to some of the old, the older wiring will not lock together because of the age. Otherwise, the rest of that part of the harness is fine. I called classic, and they in turn told me to call American Auto Wire. I called the tech number for them, and the guy that answered the phone understood what part I was looking for. He even told me he had the tool that made that part. But unless I wanted to buy a complete new harnes(which I don't want or need)hr wasn't going to see that specific part as a standalone part. Does anyone know of a supplier that carries just the plug so I can go about repairing the existing harness I have rather than replacing one that doesn't need replaced. Worse case scenario, I'll cut the ends off of both and solder them back together through the bulkhead. Just seems that someone feels they aren't making enough money without causing more rectal irritation for someone just trying to keep his old truck running. Thanks.

Picture of the old and new plug might help here.Do you have the old plugs from the wireing you took out?Sometimes you can take the old plug apart, unsolder the conectors and solder them back on your new wires. The only problem I can see with soldering them together is,if you ever need to replace the old wireing that its going to you'l have to cut them loose again. But then again it would be one less conection to go bad.

OK, thanks for the shout back. I've had a bit of time to cool down since the phone call with this vendor. I'll make one more query later today with a different vendor, and if that doesn't pan out I'll just fire up the soldering iron and keep plodding along with the replacement. I must admit...I was at full boil yesterday when the person on the other end of the line told me he wasn't in the parts business...he was in the replacement automotive wire business. Not enough money in selling parts I guess. I just have a problem dealing with "stupid".

Those plugs are for ease in attaching two or more sets, not for pluging and unpluging. Therefore I would just heat up my iron and slap some rosin solder on them.

So much for customer service. ohwell Sadly too many manufacturers sacrifice customer service when they try to cut costs. Short sighted to say the least.

Tramp,

I'd try an electronics supply house. One in my area has a plug catalog that is 4" thick! My guess is that GM didn't make your connector but rather bought it somewhere. If it is a standard type, the electronics industry probably still sells it.

Also, you might try a junk yard for a GM car or truck a little newer than yours that may have the same connector. The little pins and receivers in the connector usually come right out by releasing a spring finger.
