'Swundering' if anyone knows anything about it, sounds like a good story here.We agree. Anybody got a clue? Peggy

I think the “highway” was built to defend that frontier during the war. The Japanese held Attu and Kiska. We invaded Attu over the beach, 7th Inf. Div and 4th Inf. Regiment. Winter combat in May of 1943, included hand to hand, bayonets and human wave suicide attacks. Just like the fighting in the South Pacific. The weather was as bad an enemy as the Japanese. We also invaded Kiska, but it had been evacuated under the cover of weather. The AL Can was to be a Main Supply Route for that front should it have happened.

If you are interested, find a publication called The Milepost- it is a complete description of the highway and the sights you will see as you travel along-- if you make the trip, the book is a "must have". Great trip but you need a couple of months to REALLY enjoy it to the fullest. Glenn | | |
