I have a 48 3100. Of course they have a split windshield. Other than the windshield trim is differant. Can I place a 1 peice windshield in and use the correct trim for it? Let me know.

Tom

Project stretch update: As of tommorrow I am going to go get the frame. Engine and tranny are installed taking the frame to another shop to install stainless brake lines stainless exhaust and gas lines.

As for the body it has been blocked and blocked and blocked. They are painting the box tommorrow.

Will get picture updates.

Tom

I guess we haven't answered your question yet. I would think a better answer would come out of the paint and body forum. I know it has been discussed here in the past.

Blocked, blocked, blocked, I can relate. as to the windshield the easiest way is to just silicone the gap, but putting a later or modified w/s is kinda spendy. They do make one and it looks great.

Are you referring to the chrome trim that surrounds the wind shield? I've seen lots of conversions but not one that has the provision for the trim. I'm going to do the one piece windshield myself. I found a deal on a new one for $150.

Didn't a later year have the 1 piece windshield? 50's maybe?

Hey Joe I remember that day too. I am hoping to have it done for back to the 50's in St paul this year.

Joe's right, the one piece glass was used on the 54-55 1st series. There are several companies that offer one piece conversions. They show up regularly on Ebay. Average caost is around $350.

The one piece units have the two pieces of glass butted at the v in the middle. I read an article last year where they did one. They added metal to the lip around the opening and then it was glued in like a modern window. It always seems tough to get the finishing bits right. I have seen a few but very few that looked really good.

So I probably better stick with the 2 peice. It's not the money, it's the time and effort.

Now who has a picture of the metal that goes between the two peices of the glass? Whan my cab was converted they didn't weld in that strap.

I talked to the company that makes them. I am going to order the one piece. I'll have to have my trim custom made. Oh well what's another couple hundred bucks.

I think it will look real cool!!!

Tom,
Look at my project ...sometimes different can be SOO COOL!...mine was cut up to begin with so I had a blank Canvas to paint ..Soo Im makin it like I want, Im sure there are purists that shake there head when they see my dash ...but it was already butchered ...So I just went with somethin different than any one else has..Im all abought makin a ride YOURS, So goin with a 1 pc windshield is a great idea...I almost went that way myself, If ya look at my repositioned wipers you will see that they go in sink to each other not the factory way ..just one more I like it type thing an tryin somethin different.
IF MY TRUCK HAD NOT COME TO ME in its state of 350/th350,IFS, an a bunch of other stuff ..includin the 1/4 steel plate bed floor ..I woulda restored it to stock ..but since im into this unit for well over what I told the wife it would be? Im pretty content to get it done and NOT afraid to go against the grain on any Mods, next year will be AC, smoothed runnin boards & wheels ..but for now the Goal is to have it road worthy for my graduatin son to take to his Senior Prom,
He & His long time Gal will be arrivin in there new outfits, they got the Bonny & Clyde look goin on!all Justin needs is a Tommy Gun LOL!
Sorry for bein long winded ...basically ..make your TRUCK YOURS!an be proud of your Work!
KEEP ON TRUCKIN!!
