Finally got my truck back on the road. Have a few minor tuning issues I could use your suggestions on. Motor is a bored 327 with a mild cam, new Edelbrock 600 cfm carb on a Performer intake manifold, electronic ignition, mechanical fuel pump / fuel pressure reg. set at 6 psi. Starts, idles, and runs good. If I accelerate smoothly, no issues. If I stomp the gas, hesitation & backfire. Also, doesn't like to run a constant speed - ie @ 50 mph, kinda jerky. Thanks in advance !

You could try playing with the timing a little. I use the factory settings only as a baseline, and adjust (usually advance) the timing until you hear a slight ping under hard acceleration then back it off slightly. This takes some trial and error but it'll pay off.

Mine hesitated too, basically the same setup. At the front part of the throttle linkage there is a plunger, it uses a tiny tiny cotter pin to attach the linkage too. Change the linkage so the pump has a longer stroke. Gives a little more gas to the motor when you step on it. Not sure about the surging though.

Hi Bruce, glad you got it finished.Things that come to my mind.
1/try 10degrees timing
2/the jerking at speed may be fuel starvation, you didn't mention a fuel fiter, the E-brock use an external filter, maybe the one you have is not flowing enough at high speed.Remove it and go for a test run
3/make sure you vacum advance is working
Hope to see you at the next lunch, Boyd
