Hi all, just registered here and I thought I might be able to find out some information on identifying a Chevy engine. Its a six cylinder in a 71 C 10 pickup. The original engine was a 250 but this one has been replaced at some point in time. I'm wondering if theres any easy to spot differences between the 250 and a 292. This one really seems powerful, maybe bigger than a 250. I understand the number stamped into the block at the base of the distributor is not necessarily a way to identify the engine size. But just in case, heres the number...FO212CCA

The little bit that I know is about motor mount location. The 250 has them even on both sides, the 292 are stagered. One side is closer to the radiator than the other. Also the 292 distributor is in the center of the engine and the 250 is towards the front. Joe

Identifying the deference between a 250 and 292 is easy. The side covers on a 250 will be 4" tall on a 292 will be 6" tall. You can also get year and size on the Inliners International site at: http://www.Inliners.org

Thanks for the info. I see my engine code CCA listed in 73 and again in 77 as a 250 cubic inch so I guess thats what it is. Sure is a lively engine for a six. I have no idea how many miles are on it but it seems in decent shape, not an oil burner and runs smooth since I replaced the distributor. I'll have a few photos to post soon.
