Anyone have anything positive to say about the latest
craze of inflating your tires with nitrogen at about $10 a pop?

I use 78% Nitrogen in my tires. It works GREAT!

nope .... just check tire pressure regularly and save the coin ... unless you're talkin about airplanes or race cars

Apparently nitrogen does not leak out as fast as plain air.

Since air is motly nitrogen, you would have to assume all the oxygen and argon are what leaks, so if you keep refilling with air, the portion that is nitrogen will increase and eventually you'll almost pure nitrogen anyway.

I would not waste my money on straight nitrogen in an old truck.

When I was a Crew Chief in USAF we used just 100% nitrogen in the jet tires & landing gear struts mainly because the 100% nitrogen will not expand and contract as wildly as air,we would service the struts(with air) and if ya had a cold snap over night the struts would LET DOWN to below the Go/No Go gauge, and require a fill up before flight, the nitrogen kept this under control.
In any desert environment it not uncomon to see a temp swing of 110 durin the day and then drop to the mid 50's at night, all the nitrogen did was make out lives a bit easier than havin to service a bunch of struts in the mornin before flights started.
I really dont think it is a critical part of a vehicles life....lol

the craze to nitrogen is simpley becouse regular compresed air contains water vapor and on an alluminium rim the moisture causes the rim to oxidize creating leaks or a bad seal, 100%nitrogen eliminates this problem. If you fill your tires with nitrogen once you have to maintain it with pure nitrogen otherwise you will contaminate and have to start all over. It can be costley but if you are sick of trying to figure out why your mag rims constantly leak it is a good solution.

When you buy tires from Costco around here they do nitrogen in them. It's included in their regular mount/balance charges.
I've had it in a couple different sets they've done, didn't realize any difference really other than the little green Caps they put on them.

Or just check your tires regularly and fill them up as needed.

If they pressure up your tires with nitrogen to 30 PSI, the tiers will still have about 7% oxygen in them. Only practical way to get out all the oxygen is to do several cycles of pressure up, then bleed off the pressure. I doubt they will take the time to do that.

i'm still lookin' for factory air for my old bikes and vehicles.
actually i get free nitrogen at work.
