Im thinking of getting a new carb for my 350 small block ,(currently have a tired Holley 650), just wonderin if anyone has one and there thoughts on the product? mainly ease of tuning. | | | | | Joined: May 2007 Posts: 51 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2007 Posts: 51 | I have used several of them with no problems. They are one of the best working "out of the box" carbs we have used. They offer tuning kits for them plus they give you a book with the new carb on tuning them.Holleys are great carbs too but useually dont give the driveability of the Edelbrock out of the box. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | I have one on my 55 with a 350 engine. No problems whatsoever.I have owned several streetrods equiped with the Edlebrock carbs, and all have been good. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 | I had a 750 on a Dodge 318. It ran way too rich so I invested into some smaller jets. The Edlebrock is about the simplest carb I've ever had apart and by far the best performer for your buck. | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 1,312 | Have a 650 cfm on my 327 - ran great out of the box. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Tim, I've run the 600cfm manual choke on my 350 thats in the 37 and it has been just fine for the past 7 years....and just YESTERDAY I purchase another one just like it to go on the 305 thats going in the panel. I don't need it yet but while I'm working occasionally at Advance Auto Parts I figure I may as well take advantage of my discount!!! Sooo, I'm just stocking MY shelfs for future use!
A lot of folks ask me why I run "only" a 600cfm but for street use and the OCCASSIONAL burn out it really works fine without over carbing the engine and being wasteful:) | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,097 | I have found that they are subject to boil over and hard starting on a hot engine. A plastic/phenolic spacer will help. You also have to match the fuel pump pressure with the carb. They have a disclaimer about fuel pressure and flooding that comes packaged with the carb. Fred

The stock jets, primary .098, secondary .095, were a little rich for the 350. I re-jetted to .095 primaries and .092 secondaries, using the stock metering rods. I like it a lot better. This is for economy, not high performance. The Edelbrock carb manual has re-jetting and tuning info. I also had the boil over problem Fred mentioned. A 1" spacer solved that. I'm using a stock mechanical pump. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | Cletis that 1406 is a 600cfm with automatic choke....right! Mine is a 1405... it's a manual choke! I have even thought of re-jetting mine. I even have a rebuild kit that I think has them in it....or maybe its the same size. I haven't open the pack, just keeping it for when I do need it. I know the day will come when I do!!! I'm running the stock mechanical pump to for those interested in knowing. Never had a boil over problem though in 8 years with the one on my 37. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 641 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 641 | i have 2 on a 383 stroker i started it up theres a kind of snap when you step on it i rebuilt one once there very easy to work on not many parts good carbs. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 | I've used it before with no problems. Heck, if Ihad been smart and kept the one I just sold inistead of swapping to fuel injection, I'd be up & running by now!

I rebuilt the Holley with all new gaskets, needles and seats and new brass floats. I have been havin a bear of a time tuning it ,I do have the floats adjusted correctly now and it runs ok but still rich Im gonna give her a go again after I get on the road, but I purchased a Edelbrock for my Harley a few yrs ago an fell in love with its ease of tuning and overall performance straight from the box so if I am not satisfied with the Holley Im planning on a 600 Edelbrock as gas keeps goin up Im lookin more for streetabilty and daily use with out the hassle of messin with the carb all the time. Ive been told a Holley tuned properly is a great carb but most require tinkerin to keep em running right?

It tells hoe vo adjust it & rejet it. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | |
