The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk 1 - '65 and 2 - '66s

I dont know if I am putting this in the right area or not. I just wanted to share what I came across this weekend. A friend of mine owns a welding shop in the town where I live. For about 6 months he has had a '65 shortbed fleetside and a '66 shortbed stepside sitting behind his shop. I knew they werent his but I thought I would ask him about them anyway. He gave me the owners phone number and told me to call him. I kind of put it off for a while and I finally called him saturday. He told me to come and look at what else he had for sale. He only lived about 10 miles from me so I figured what the hell. So, he opens up his shop and he has a '66 shortbed fleetside all restored with a big block in it - NOT FOR SALE! But, sitting in front of that he had a '66 longbed fleetside, big back window, factory a.c., 327 ci, powerglide, factory power brakes, one owner truck. Runs and drives! I got to looking at it and the only rust on it was on the front fenders and the hood. I asked him how many miles were on it and he told me 96,000 original and that it was from Georgia. Selling price.....$1300 for all three! SOLD!!!

Yeah, I was pretty happy about it. The two shortbed trucks are basically shells and probably not worth the time to fix them. The longbed truck was the best part of the whole deal. I needed a shortbed rolling frame for my '60 project that I have been working on so I figured I could use one for it and I was kicking around the thought of switching the longbed over to a shortbed. We will see. I will definitly get some pictures taken and post them up.

OH PLEASE do not hack up the longbed! While they may not be as popular as the shortbeds.. they are way cooler! You can fit more stuff in the box.. and you already have another shortbed.
How can you tell I have a longbed?

It's your truck man, so do what you want, but like Freedo I like the long bed trucks. To me they say truck more than the short beds. And those are the only pickups I have had except for 4 import/mini trucks. But now that it has been mentioned I saw a TV show some months ago (TRUCKS!, maybe) and that was the project that episode: they cut down a 65-66 Chevy from long to short. They did excellent work - looked factory, better maybe.

I havent decided which way to go yet. I might just leave it a long bed but I sure like the looks of a short bed and I would basically have all the parts I need to do it. I almost dont want to do anything to it at all and just drive it. It would be kind of cool to just have a good ole driver. I saw that episode of TRUCKS! too. They did a very nice job on that one.
