I have a 58 60 viking truck with a In line 6cy engine. Im am trying to I.D. 235 or 261 - need to know what to look for. The truck has 8.25-20 tires now, was this the original size? It has a GM vaccum operated 2 speed rear end, I would like to find out the gear ratio. I would also like to I.D. the trans. It is a manual 4 speed with a Tulsa pto mounted on it. If this helps the VIN tag on the inside of the drivers door says 6C58Sl24689 19,000lb GVW paint 708 wheelbase 174.

You've got a Jobmaster 6000..The 'C' designator didn't come out until the 60's..Original engine is a 261..there should be a number stamped next to the distributor that will tell you the engine size..to identify the 2spd rear end, there should be a tag on it with numbers..

They made a C-60 Viking. I have one also. That's what the chrome on the side of the hood says. Maybe you need mine also. Call me if you need photos or anything. dlhenk. 785-738-8714

dlhenk,

Your 1958 fender emblem should say "Chevrolet Viking 60", not C60. They didn't use the "C" in front of the number until sometime in the 1960's (I think 1963). Viking and "C" were not used at the same time, they dropped Viking when they went to "C".
