For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 360 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 360 | i have a plan to make my 46 go, 261, orig drive line and patricks 3:55 conversion. Does me no good if i can't stop!!! want to keep the original brake sytem (origi-rod) i am building. another member suggested a "hydro-vac" booster and a dual M/C. i know nothing of the H/V system. the other option i have seen is the booster M/C combo for the 47-53 trucks. not sure if my brake syst will hold that pressure or if it will fit. anybody w/ any thoughts or experience. mechanicly i am ok, just new to these applications and equipment.

Those are a pain even on vehicles that came equipped with them from the factory. Id choose a standard vaccum power unit. There are lots of different sizes available and they are much more simple to work with, in my opinion. good luck with whatever you choose! | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | You can't use a hydro-vac with a dual res master, you'll have to go with a standard booster. Regardless either system will work better with a power booster.
My preference was upgrade to go with 4 wheel disc brakes on my 1940 3/4 ton. 4 wheel drum brake systems without automatic adjusters are SCARRY! I can't tell you how many times the uneven grabbing of the drum brakes caused me to spin out of control in my 1st truck. It put me on the driver's side 2 wheels once while I was on the freeway... an event that I would not want to duplicate. | | |
