Anyway I found this little gem which may or may not be what remains of the original pinstripe. I'll let the experts haggle oner this one. The factory strips were an option only on the 5 window models as far as i know. It's not from mine and I'd venture to say that it had never been refinished. When I disassembled it all of the original fasteners and weatherstripping were there. The general condition of the door leads me to believe it's never been refinished.
What I find most interesting is it's two colors that touch and the line width is near perfect, but I don't know what the original specs were for such things.
I might add that this is from a '51 if that means anything.

There was a lot of stuff quoted from the spec sheets and Tim and the guys contributed a lot of information to the subject. Even covered the wheel strips about as completely as you could; https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/366285#Post366285 Also you might be interested in the discussion on the same subject over on the VCCA Chatter II; http://vccachat.org/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/112534#Post112534 Basically the stripe was about 2/3 down from the top of the belt line and a 1/4” either side of the wiper bezels and from all indications cream. One thing to keep in mind is that the strip was applied by a steady hand, a different one at each location so the strip is going to be a little different width on all of them. And yes a good striper could lay down a line all around the cab all the same width. Hard to tell what you got there from your picture Woody, but the stripe would have been located as described above. Does not describe the pinstripes anywhere in the pamphlet, but from the picture, I think the stripe is larger than 1/8 inch. Also placement seems to contradict a lot of people's opinions. http://www.pbase.com/oldchevytruck/image/93068612/originalI hope this link works, first time I have tried to do this! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | Yep That's what it looks like Brian, the only thing I can tink of is the Truck Cab Service film-strip was prepared for just that, servicing the cabs mechanical devices and the illustration on the VCCA thread was specifically created to illustrate the paint scheme. Also the Service literature was, as you noted, 1947—1948 and there were quite a few changes in the early development of the AD. The 2/3 location with the break at the wipers simply looks better also. Taint a perfect world ya know! Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

They were painted by hand by a person who supposedly only painted pinstripes. Jim Carter sells a sheet with some information about pinstriping. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | That's in the VCCA link that I listed earlier Tim. That's the one that Brian is questioning the authenticity of. It would be nice to know what the source of JC's pin striping sheet was taken from. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

His little info sheet says the wheel pin stripes are 3/16 inch, but his tech tips on his website says 1/4 inch. Being handpainted, as I have said before, there was a lot of variation. Once I closely inspected an original one that varied from 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch! What I would like to know is what width was the original intent of Chevrolet. I doubt we will ever know. | | |
