For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 13 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 13 | Can someone tell me if there is a way to repair the window regulator and interior door handle on my truck? The Window handle tines are stripped as well as the door handles'. It is not the actual handle I am concerned about but the mechanism on the door. I found a repair kit for the window for models 49-50 and then the year picked back up in 55. I asked ClassicParts.com if '51 was just not listed but they said all they sold was what was listed. I really do not want to buy an entire regulator. I found a reasonably priced door mechanism but if anyone knows of a trick of the trade or a place to buy the necessary parts I would be grateful. Thanks in advance for your guidance, this is my first classic and I have learned so much from all the members of Stovebolt. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 | On my 53 the previous owner had stripped the tines or splines as well on the handle and the window regulator. What he did was drill a hole thru the screw hole in the handle, right thru the splined shaft on the regulator and stuck a pin in. You could use an epoxy to hold it in place. BUT don't forget you have done it. No one told me about mine and when I could not get the handle off I put some 'effort' into, snapping the splined shaft. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | Or you can simply file a flat spot on the spline and tighten the screw down real tight. Not pretty but it works. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 13 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 13 | Thank you to both of you for your responses. I have thought about the epoxy, but I thought for sure I would need back in the door for some reason, so I am not going that route. I have thought about the drilling option also, did not know how difficult that would be. Never heard of making the spot flat, it makes since though. I guess I need to just try it and not be afraid of ruining something. Thanks again... | | |
