Anyone got any experience with an 8 volt battery in a 6 volt system? If you do and you are using one in your truck can you share your thoughts and tell me where you can buy one for less than an arm and leg. Several old mechanics have advised me to put one in my 47 1/2 ton to improve starting. Appreciate it.

I'm running an 8 volt battery that was pushed on me by my local parts store. I've had no problems, but the brighter guys will tell you to fix the problems and forget the 8 volt upgrade. Do a search (upper part of this page, right side) on "8 volt battery" and you'll get lots of hits on similar or identical questions.

What Organbuilder said. An 8v battery is a bandaid "fix" for other problems.

Subject has been covered many times, but why not once again. Going to a clean connections, at least 00 battery cables and a good battery, (I am using a 6v Optima battery) and you will not have any starting problems at all. Like what has been mentioned, an 8v battery actually causes more problems than solves them .
